60 years of people helping people, and checking that proves it.
Fourteen Amway employees started River Valley in 1965 so their neighbors would have somewhere better to bank. Six decades later, we’re still member-owned, still local, and still answering the phone ourselves. Open free checking in minutes.
Everything a checking account should be. Nothing it shouldn’t cost.
Free checking at River Valley isn’t a promotional rate that expires. It’s how we’ve always done it.
No Monthly or Annual Fees
Keep what you earn. There’s no maintenance fee to work around and nothing to qualify for each month.
No Minimum Balance
Your balance is your business. Run it low the week before payday without a penalty waiting for you.
Instant Issue Visa® Debit Cards
Walk into Ada, Lowell, or Edmore and walk out with a working card in your hand. No two-week wait.
Nearly 30,000 Free ATMs
Surcharge-free access nationwide through the CO-OP network, more locations than most national banks.
Overdraft Privilege & Protection
Options that cover the mistake instead of compounding it, so a mistimed debit doesn’t derail your week.
Online Banking & Mobile Deposit
Bill Pay, eStatements, eAlerts, digital wallet, and free mobile check deposit, plus a real person to call.
A credit union answers to you. A bank answers to shareholders.
Because banking should feel human. We’re member-owned, not big-bank-owned, so every decision gets made with you in mind. Your money stays in West Michigan, working for the community around you.
Members talk about our people, not our rates.
“I feel like Norm from Cheers when I walk in, because you all take time to know our names. I don’t spend time pushing buttons. I get right through to a person.”
“I have been with River Valley for 15 years and absolutely love them. I moved over an hour away and they still make my banking convenient to me.”
“Fast, professional and highly effective service. RVCU has proven yet again that they care about their members and their needs.”

What do I need to open an account?
A government-issued photo ID, your Social Security number, and a $5 deposit to establish your member share savings account. That $5 is your ownership stake in the credit union.
Is the checking account really free?
Yes. No monthly or annual maintenance fee and no minimum balance requirement. Other service charges, like wire transfers or overdraft items, are listed in our Rates & Service Charges schedule.
How do I move my direct deposit?
Give your employer our routing number (272476239) and your new account number, or bring your paystub into any branch and we’ll fill out the form with you.
Can I get my debit card the same day?
Yes, all three branches issue Visa® debit cards on the spot, so you can leave with a card that’s ready to use.
Are my deposits insured?
Your savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government, National Credit Union Administration.
